FIRM FOUNDATION

I was at the library with my son and daughter, my daughter is 10 years old for this entry and my son is 14 years old. I saw my daughter looking at the world map and teetering on an ipad and I asked "Would you like to be on a wibbly wobbly foundation or a firm foundation?" Her answer was "A firm foundation." "Well that is a good answer." I said.
Both my kids are in prayer. I have taught them about God's love, Jesus's love and healing and who they and Holy Spirit is for them. They have expressed to me that they don't believe but I know that when you raise them up in the way they should go, they will remember, I also hold on to the promise of the Lord that says...."and your children I will save."
So every time I have them I try to incorporate a teaching to whatever it is they are doing, a relational teaching to something they may need to know. But I tell you not alone, I pray each and every time I have them, and there have been times when we didn't speak about the Lord at all. But the opportunities are growing, Praise the Lord!
One time I took them to a mountain town and went up to the parking lot and they expressed their feelings about things. And my question then was: "Would you like to walk in lies? Or in the truth?" Their answer: "The Truth, obviously." Good answer of course!
So since then I've been teaching a bit of the truth so they have a bit at a time. There were times where I just loved on them, and just let them be, there have been times where God has opened up opportunities to discuss bigger topics like why dinosaur bones were found in animation? New findings about the Ark and the flood and that opened up big discussions between me and my 14 yo son at the time.
So back to the firm foundation. And you can try this at home or at the library if they have these there too.
My daughter was taking these log pillows, they are cut like pieces of wood from the stump of a tree, and the carpet in there is a campfire, with these logs around it. There is a stack of 12 on the table, she took them all down placed them on the floor and tried to sit on them. And my question, to her was???... you guessed it...."Is that a firm foundation?" And her answer was "No" she had tried to sit on them and half the stack split and fell. She tried to dwindle to 9, then 8, then 7, then 6, then 5, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1, and each time the question was is this a firm foundation "some answers were 'no' and some were 'yes' because the pillows weren't moving. My point was to have her understand what a firm foundation was. The next part of the lesson is talking about who is the Firm Foundation? What is your answer?
You can try this too with some plushy pillows or something else to share what a firm foundation is to your kiddos, and you will probably get a lot farther on talking about who the firm foundation is. Although we didn't get into it then we will...to be continued.
