Removing the Crud, Understanding Refreshment a bit more

Writer's picture: Kelly LevyKelly Levy

The other day I was cleaning a pan, I had made some sweet corn in, and I soaked it in water at first and got the metal flipper thingy and scraped the crud from the pans surface first while it was in the water. Then I cleaned it but not all of it came off. So I then tried to take a towel to it and remove some of it and some did come off, but then I had to try again and I didn’t want to keep scrubbing, or removing it with a towel, so I decided to soak the pan in water and soap and leave it for a while.

When we go to clean dishes we are cleaning the crud off a dish, to see the bright shiny plate or pan underneath.

As Sons and Daughters of GOD we don’t have to put up with the crud! We could get our brillo pads out, and get that crud surface off once and for all by praying it out with God, that would be one of the first steps you could take, but we can also just let God do it, no need to strive. We do this through Refreshment/ Soaking. Letting God do the work, we just BE with God, that's it! No trying, no striving, no guessing, no vigorous movements, just BEING with Him. Because the true beauty beneath is what GOD gave us, the true beauty inside is what GOD gave us, and that is what needs to come to the surface, that’s what needs to be seen.

This can be relational to discernment for people too. When we discern something we are discerning something around a person, not the person. As discerners we are looking to remove that thing that's around them, because that person is a beautiful person, the person God made in us, because our identity is in Him not in the crud around that person. So what kind of crud are we talking about to those who are new to discernment. We're talking about the principalities and powers around a person, perhaps it's negativity, condemnation, criticism, harshness, whatever it is, those aren't the person's trueness to who they are. The person is perfectly and wonderfully made by God. As discerners and prayers when we do what we can, and we pray, or sing or dance, whatever we feel Holy Spirit is leading in the way we should go for that particular person or place, when you've done what you can do with God about it, soaking works good for them too! Just like sitting in the water like that pan. Soaking, Refreshment works! It’s the hands-off version of doing the rest of it to see the beauty, to get to the True core. Not in a bad way, but in a really good way, cause we have a really good Father. He does the rest, you don't have to do it.

So how do we refresh with God?

We refresh by sitting in music or you can read the Word if you'd like. You can sit or get up and dance, you could sing, or you can just sit and lay there and soak in the instrumental piece of music and just let Him do what He will do.

For families, parents doing it with their kids, you can throw on some music, maybe some of their favorite tunes or soaking music and do some puzzles, drawing, coloring, painting, or a family activity you like to do like watch a movie even.

What I've experienced in Refreshment:

In Refreshment, I have felt lighter afterwards, noticed stuff that maybe I'd been carrying just be picked off and had things leave. I have felt at peace, very calm, and joyful. I have cried in refreshment, let go of some things. I have felt energized, and completely understood the Verse: ".....He renews your strength."

Some have described Refreshment as a day at the spa.

Whatever you are going through, or whatever someone you may know is going through, God is with you, He is your helper, your friend, and your good Father and He wants to help you with shedding some stuff, Refreshment can help with this.
